Hello!
It’s once again time for my Spring Seminar on Studio Lighting and Posing. This is a two day Saturday and Sunday event on August 30 & 31, 2008. It covers a huge variety of topics so I hope you will take a moment to fully read the info that follows.
If you have been frustrated or dissapointed with your lighting and posing skills, then this is an opportunity to discover just how easy lighting and posing can be.
On Saturday morning I will teach you how studio lights work, how they are used and how to precisely control them with ease. This is central to achieving your image making goals with ease and confidence. Photographers constantly look at that little screen on the back of the camera. When you get precisely what you see with your eyes, the learning and image making process is far easier and rewarding. The frustrating experimentation is finally over and you can get it right in the camera.
Lighting for digital photography need never be difficult.
I will also teach you various portrait lighting patterns. These are the lighting arrangements that give us specific portrait looks. Students have the opportunity to come up and demonstrate what they just learned. Even inexperienced photographers marvel at how easy it is to create beautiful portrait lighting after only a few minutes of instruction.
In the afternoon, we move on to taking meter readings for perfect exposures. You will learn how easy it is to eliminate confusing ratios such as 3 to 1 and replace them with a far more easy and reliable method of controlling the look of our portraits.
You will also learn how easy it is to use color gels and smoke to create exciting hair light, background effects and other dramatic lighting techniques.
I will also show you how easy it is to create beautiful window light portraits with very little equipment and if time and conditions permit, I will show you how to find beautiful light outdoors even when conditions are not the best.
Very limited seating so please register
early if you wish to attend. 1-800-853-1190
Posing is what most photographers feel the greatest need for help with. I will teach you the essential elements for head and shoulders portraits, full length portraits and even beautiful profiles with easy profile lighting. You will learn the dos and don’ts of posing couples. I will also show you many common mistakes that photographers make and how easy it is to avoid them. We will deal with arms, hands, fingers, legs, noses, glasses, baldness, couple poses, head tilts and eye positions.
Family and group posing need not be difficult. I will show you how easy it is to put family and other types of groups together so that they look comfortable and artistic.
As we approach the late afternoon, we will put students into small groups to create a portrait concept with creative lighting, posing and expression. I will evaluate each group’s work and point out the positives and what might have been done differently. This is a very enjoyable activity with competition between the groups and much laughter.
On Sunday, we begin with wedding photography where I will teach on many aspects of how difficult situations can be eliminated and stress removed. I will also teach on business as well as a variety of posing dos and don’ts and creative ideas for wedding photography.
FREE educational handouts for everyone.
The next presentation will be on the subject of Boudoir or Glamour photography. I will discuss the benefits and misconceptions about this very profitable and rewarding style of image making. Unusual posing and lighting styles are shown and many insights are discussed to help photographers better understand this profitable facet of professional photography.
Our final presentation is called “Add Excitement and Profit to Your Studio”. It covers a wide range of topics that help today’s photographer advance both artistically and financially. For many, the highlight of this program is the extensive section on making your own creative backgrounds for little or no money. Photographers are surprised at how simple it is to make many different kinds of interesting and beautiful backgrounds.
Photographers leave the seminar excited with a wealth of truly usable information.
"I hope to see you soon!" - Scott Smith
Below are a few comments sent in by photographes who attended my seminar followed by seminar registration info.
Comments from seminar attendees:
“Scott:
I want you to know that you taught me more about lighting in the first hour and a half than I have learned from all the courses I have taken and books I have read over the last 5 1/2 years! I can't wait to put to practice what you taught me this weekend. Thanks!
Sincerely,
William Garrett”"Dear Scott:
I was reluctant to attend your seminar this last weekend. I am so new to portrait photography that I figured I wouldn't understand much of anything. Your teaching is so easy to understand and comprehend, I swear that anyone could learn from you. You speak clearly and use words that even I could understand with ease. Thank you for teaching like no one else I have seen. It was worth traveling across the country to see you and I intend to come back and bring my husband with me so he can learn from you. I can't thank you enough for what you do!

“Scott:
Thanks so much for the seminar. I really enjoyed listening to you and sharing the hands on lighting competition. I do plan to come back and bring an assistant. I learned things from you that I would NEVER have found out from others. You need to be bottled and sold like a fine bottle of wine!

“Scott:
I very much enjoyed your seminar this week end and I truly learned a bunch. Your explanations were easily understood and very much on the money. It was a pleasure to learn from an instructor who really knows what he is talking about. Keeping the instruction simple is the sign of a person who knows his “onions”.
Thank for the wonderful and informative weekend,
Bernie Pysz”
“Hi Scott,
Just want to say how much I enjoyed the seminar. It was GREAT! Your kind and compassionate teaching style combined with the spectacular content was truly amazing. Your examples of common lighting mistakes and follow-on discussion of correction really makes a difference. I hope to see you again in a future seminar.
Roy Christian”
“Scott,
Just wanted to take a minute and thank you for the excellent seminar. On a dollar value basis, it is by far the best class I've ever attended.
Thanks and Good Luck!!
Robert Hill”
