Hi!
This is my Safety page for kids. It is about safety for kids and how to use 911 in an emergency. It's very important to stay safe!

Most cities have a special phone number that people can use when an emergency happens. When you dial this number you will get the help you need no matter what it is. It might be the fire department, or an ambulance or the police department.

The special number is 911. It is very important to know what a real emergency is so you can use it the right way. In the next box you will see some things that you should call 911 for and some others that you should not. No matter what happens you should always tell an adult.

Dial 911
in an emergency. . .

If someone falls and
really hurts themselves...

Or if you see someone
breaking into a house...

Or if you see a really
bad car accident...

Or if someone is really
sick and needs to go
to the hospital...

Or if you are lost.

Don't
dial 911. . .

When you need help
carrying something...

Or if you just need
some information...

Or just need
directions...

Or if you are
just hungry...

Remember:
For help in an emergency...dial 911.

When the operator answers,
give the following information. . .

Your name,
your address and phone number, and
the reason you are calling.

Then answer any questions the operator asks.
Don't hang up until the operator tells you to.

If you dial 9-1-1 by mistake, do not hang-up.
Stay on the phone and answer all the
dispatcher's questions.

You can get in trouble if you call 9-1-1 on purpose
and make up a story.

You will not get in trouble for calling 9-1-1 by mistake.

The last thing I want to tell you is to be safe
every day when you are around other people.
Here are some good safety rules to follow.

NEVER take a ride or go somewhere with a stranger.
If someone tries to make you go somewhere with
them, run away and call 911 or tell a police officer.

NEVER take candy, money or a gift from a stranger.
If someone tries to give you some,
tell your parents or a police officer.

NEVER take alcohol, cigarettes or other drugs.
If someone tries to give you some, just say NO!
Then run and call 911,
or tell your parents or a police officer.

ALWAYS walk and play with a friend.

I hope you will remember these ways to stay safe
and that police officers are your friends.
