| Here are some photographs of the G scale carousel that Scott built to go with our model railroading hobby. The diameter of the base is about two feet and the diameter of the carousel itself is about 13 inches. The flooring is real walnut and the walkway around the carousel is simulated cobblestone. The horses go up and down with the rotation of the ride. The rotation speed of the ride can be varied from still up to a normal speed and it can also go in reverse. The lighting on the carousel remains a constant brightness regardless of the rotation speed. The miniature lights are powered by a separate power supply and receive their voltage through a brass commutator pick up system. There are over 1000 gemstones on the ride including many 2mm stones on the horses. The ride is surrounded by shrubs in miniature real clay pots and there are a number of park benches for spectators. Much of the tiny gold decorative metal was installed using screws and nuts normally used for assembling eye glasses. Scott spent over 1000 hours building it and plans to one day add even more lighting to it. - Becky |
